Keeping your Windows Sparkly Clean

Keeping your Windows Sparkly Clean

When your new glass is fitted by MJS Locksmith we will clean it with Siroflex glass cleaner which is a high strength cleaner always used after fitting and also wipe all upvc frames down with a upvc cream cleaner on old frames and a upvc solvent cleaner on new frames, these products can be used for cleaning after the initial fit ongoing or old more traditional methods can be used also which I have listed below as a guide for you.

Clean windows allow you to see out of them easily and maintain the glass itself and the surrounding frames and draught seals.

Keeping Windows Sparkly Clean: The Traditional Way

You will need a bucket half full of warm water with a drop of vinegar in, the glass can be wiped down with this solution then buffed off with a old piece of newspaper to give your window that shiny sparkling finish.

There is also other very good methods of cleaning your windows to get rid of streaks when washing, mould round frames, dirty external sills and second hand smoke damaging the windows:

“My Windows always end up streaky”

Use a window washing squeegee with a smooth soft rubber edge. Washing windows is a tiresome chore, but its even worse when your left with streaks on your windows.

Here’s how the pros do it: Use black and White newspaper to buff your windows so they are shiny and streak free.

Always start your squeegee at the top of the window and work your way down.

Don’t wash windows in direct sunlight because quickly dried glass is more susceptible to streaking.

“I get Mould round my windows”

Wash with a bleach solution. Black mould spots on wooden or upvc frames can be cleaned easily with a mix of warm water and bleach wich will kill the mould quickly. Mould normally builds up due to bad ventilation, so it would be a good idea to have vents fitted to your window frames also.

“My outside window sills get dirty quickly”

Apply a coat of floor wax. Because your exterior windows are exposed to the elements, they are subject to collecting a lot of dirt. But the simple way is to coat them with a simple floor wax to protect them.

“Second hand Smoke is killing my windows”

Wash with ammonia solution. To remove nicotine from windows clen down with a mix of 1 cup of lemon scented ammonia to 9 liters of water to clean down your glass and frames.
